How to Reschedule or Cancel an ICC Contractor Exam

You can reschedule or cancel an ICC Contractor/Trades exam appointment through Pearson VUE. ICC’s published guidance requires at least two business days’ notice to reschedule without a financial penalty.

If a job runs behind or you need more time to prepare, check your appointment now. Waiting until the night before the test can leave you responsible for the full exam fee.

This guide covers computer-based contractor exams booked at Pearson VUE test centers.

Check the deadline before changing your appointment

ICC’s rescheduling instructions say that a timely change allows the fee from your original appointment to carry over to the new test date.

Pay attention to the words business days. Do not assume that any 48-hour period meets the requirement. If a weekend or holiday falls near your appointment, confirm the cutoff with Pearson VUE instead of trying to make the change at the last minute.

Have your confirmation email open so you can check the appointment time and the policies that apply to your booking.

How to reschedule your ICC contractor exam

Start at Pearson VUE’s ICC Contractor/Trades page and sign in to the account used to book your exam.

  1. Open your upcoming test-center appointment.
  2. Check the exam name and ID, then choose Reschedule.
  3. Select an available appointment at your preferred test center.
  4. Review the new booking and accept the applicable policies.
  5. Complete the final confirmation step.

ICC says Pearson VUE will email you to confirm the change. Save it and check the date, start time, and testing location before updating your calendar.

If the new appointment does not appear in your account, contact Pearson VUE to confirm whether the change was completed.

How to cancel your ICC contractor exam

To cancel the appointment, open it in your Pearson VUE account and select Cancel. Review the cancellation policy, acknowledge it, and complete the confirmation step. Save the cancellation email.

ICC’s Contractor/Trades cancellation guidance states that canceling by phone less than two business days before the exam results in the full examination fee being charged.

Do not assume that canceling automatically means you will receive a refund. Read the terms shown for your appointment. If the refund treatment is unclear, ask Pearson VUE before completing the cancellation.

If you still intend to take the same exam and have a new date in mind, use the rescheduling option to change the existing appointment.

If you missed the deadline or cannot attend

Contact Pearson VUE promptly. Its dedicated ICC Contractor/Trades phone number is 877-234-6082.

Have your appointment confirmation and exam ID available. Explain whether you need a new date, need to cancel, or have already missed the appointment. Ask what options remain and whether another exam payment will be required.

Simply staying home does not cancel the booking. ICC’s payment guidance says candidates who miss an examination without rescheduling or canceling according to policy owe the full fee for that appointment.

If an emergency prevents you from attending, explain the circumstances when you call and ask what documentation is needed. Do not assume a fee will be waived.

If you are rescheduling because you need more study time

Choose a new date that gives you time to work on the reason you postponed.

If you are struggling to find answers, practice using the index and following section numbers. If you can locate answers but keep running out of time, practice working through questions without getting stuck on one lookup.

For most students, we recommend allowing about one to two weeks of focused review after the prep class. Your work schedule and familiarity with the books should guide your date choice.

Our guide to choosing the best test date for your ICC contractor exam covers that decision in more detail.
